While earlier versions of the WordPress for iOS app accomplished the basic necessities of blogging, the app was functional at best and in dire need of a facelift. At long last, WordPress has pleased the blogging community with the announcement of the new WordPress for iOS, an update packed with interface improvements and new features to improve the mobile blogging experience.
If you used the previous version of the app, you’ll notice some significant aesthetic improvements in version 3.1. As far as navigation, the app now includes an omnipresent sliding menu that functions a lot like the one on Facebook’s mobile app. No matter where you are in the app, you can access the menu by sliding it from left to right.
It can be tough to adjust post layout from a mobile device, so it’s nice that this version includes post format support, which imports the preset formats supported by your theme.
While previous versions of the app only offered basic referral stats, the statistics in version 3.1 are pretty robust. In the new Stats tab you’ll find breakdowns by click, country, post and a variety of time frames, all in a much more appealing layout.
The new Quick Photo function for iPhone and iPad lets users post pictures in a matter of seconds. You’ll also notice the ability to preview posts of any kind before publishing, a great tool to ensure that your posts appear the way you want them to.
WordPress.com Reader has also been added to the app, giving users the opportunity to discover content from other WordPress bloggers.
New for iPad
The update takes advantage of the iPad’s larger screen size with the panels interface, which lets users view more information at once. You can even move and resize panels in order to personalize your view.
WordPress for iOS Version 3.1 is available for free in the App Store. Give it a try and let us know what you think!
