Target is updating the holiday shopping experience by adding QR codes to the mix. According to a press release, Target will begin showcasing the top 20 toys in-store, each with its own corresponding QR code shoppers can scan to purchase the toy directly. The toy will then ship free to anyone, anywhere in the U.S.
Stephanie Lucy, vice president of toys for Target, said, “Our in-store QR codes for this year’s top toys will add real convenience for busy moms. Now, rather than hoping the kids won’t notice when a gift is slipped into the cart, guests can scan the QR codes to buy top toys and have them shipped anywhere for free.”
Personally, I’m curious to see whether the adoption of the QR codes will result in fewer Black Friday brawls and parents fighting over the season’s must-have toy.
What do you think of Target’s strategy? Do you think it will help prevent in-store hassles and frantic last-minute shoppers? Do you think it should be expanded to the season’s must-have gadgets to cover the adults on shoppers’ lists?
