There are two commonly known truisms about Reddit. One: do not, under any circumstances, try to pull a fast one on, spam or annoy Redditors. Two: the site is dominated by twenty-something males.
That being said, it should come as no surprise that the social news site is most popular among the 18-29 year old male demographic. According to a new report from Pew Internet and American Life Project, nearly one sixth (15%) of 18-29 year old males say they use Reddit, versus just 5% of women in that same age group. The site is also popular among middle-aged males; 8% of 30-49 year old men consider themselves Reddit users.
Reddit isn’t necessarily insignificant among the general internet using population, though. According to the report, 6% of all U.S. online adults are Reddit users.
The most obvious marketing use of the tool is to disseminate content among a large and influential audience — but since that audience is notoriously quick to call BS, the key is to plan your brand’s Reddit marketing strategy carefully.
