Beard and hair grooming tools are one of the hottest trending products heading into 2024, and for good reason. Thanks to trends in battery life, blade precision, and of course the desire to look your best after two years of staying at home, the time is right to buy.

That said, the Aussie trimmer market is cluttered with cheap knockoffs and dodgy internet sellers. Even well recognised brands are rushing to put out subpar product that is not worth your hard earned dollars. This is where we come in…

If you are thinking of purchasing a new trimmer or grooming kit, our list (updated monthly) will help you make the best choice with a focus on features, build quality, and overall value for your money.

So what makes the Sonitrek Pro Cordless Trimmer the best all around trimmer for head, face, and body grooming alike?

The best cordless trimmer for all around daily needs, period. Sonitrek have invested in precision trimmer blades that enable users to tune the Pro to their needs at home and on the go while packaging in a stylish, compact form factor at the sub-$100 price range.

11-in-1 attachments allow for full body grooming including sensitive areas. The Sonitrek Pro is perfect for nearly every part of the body, including nose, ears, head, beard, and below the neck. The included attachments do their respective jobs well, and offer a variety of trimming options.

Fully waterproof for transition from wet to dry with ease. The Pro features a fully waterproof rating, and may be used in wet or dry conditions without losing power or trimming accuracy. That’s a welcome advancement that makes the product far more versatile than standard water resistant trimmers in a similar price range.

Durable, easy to pack design. The Sonitrek Pro is light, easy to handle, and includes up to 80 minutes of continuous use time in a single charge. The included lithium ion battery is approved for carryon or checked air travel, meaning you won’t need to worry when going on holiday or work trips.

Australia-based customer support. We have been continuously disappointed with beauty brands in the past, even from giants like Samsung. Part of that disappointment comes with poor or absent customer service. We tested Sonitrek on several occasions with questions and every time received proper replies within an hour. That demonstrates commitment to Australian market and contributes greatly to our award of Editor’s Pick.

Why Manscaped makes our list of body trimmer products

High overall quality for a cordless trimmer. Manscaped have become a legendary name in the body trimmer world, and the Lawn Mower 4.0 lives up to the name. The build quality is clearly rugged and durable with a modern, sleek design that sets it apart visually from other tools. The added charging base is a nice touch, though does add a bit of travel weight to the device should you take it along on holiday.

Sharp blades with plastic guard. As a brand, Manscaped is all about safe body shaving. That means no skin nicks or cuts in sensitive areas where skin can easily get caught. The inbuilt guard in the Lawn Mower 4.0 tackles this challenge brilliantly by sacrificing a super close shave. If you aren’t concerned about getting hair trimmed extremely tightly, then this feature can be a life saver.

Easy to use, but includes fewer accessories. A simple, single button on/off design makes using the Lawn Mower 4.0 a straightforward affair. That said, the included accessory pack contains only two trimmer heads, meaning you have limited choice in length guards which may not work for your preferred style.

Waterproof design may get slippery in the shower. The Lawn Mower 4.0 is fully waterproof, which makes transitioning to the shower worry free. That said, the handle gets a bit slippery when wet, and could use some rubberized and textured grips to assist in wet shaving. For the price, we expected details like this to be addressed, and we hope the next version includes this feature.

Why Philips gets our approval for the Multi Groom 7000

Solid build that delivers on features. Though the Multi Groom 7000 has a somewhat simplistic look, it includes all of the modern features we expect in a grooming system costing over $100. That includes intelligent, easy to change multi-grooming tools, reliable controls, and a comfortable rubberized grip for longer sessions. The extras, however, are where Philips lose points.

Dodgy blade accuracy could nip skin. While Philips includes a complete kit of 18 attachments, some are better than others. In particular, the nose trimmer and foil shaver tend to nip at skin and pull at hairs, which can cause discomfort and pain. The blades inside these attachments could be sharper and more precise.

Built for all conditions, but may not work for you. While Philips notes the 7000 is water resistant, the position of the power button makes it far too easy to accidentally turn on or off while gripping, especially when your hand or the trimmer is wet. In addition, the blades seem to function better when dry, causing us to question the level of waterproofing over time.

Runners-up: Best Combo Trimmer

There are many, many trimmer and body grooming products in the Australian market. And while we attempt to test as many as possible for our readers, some units simply don’t make the cut. Here’s a quick peek at trimmers that didn’t make the list.

Braun Series 7 Electric Shaver – $249.99 at Amazon.com.au

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is star_en_Artboard-1_3-4_long-1024x108.png

The iconic Braun Series trimmers can be credited with reimagining what a cordless combo trimmer looks like. Unfortunately, Braun didn’t reimagine what an effective trimmer actually does: Provide all body trimming features. The Series 7 is a masterpiece in craftsmanship, but is most effective on facial hair, and finicky on other parts of the body. Combined with an astronomic price tag, we cannot recommend Braun unless facial shaving to skin level is all you intend to do.

Wahl Color Pro Combo Trimmer – $139.00 at Amazon.com.au

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is star_en_Artboard-1_3-4_long-1-1024x108.png

Wahl have developed their own answer to the competitive home trimming tool market, and unfortunately it isn’t quite as advanced as other models in the same price range. Featuring a unique color coded system to help you recall which length was used last, the Color Pro is meant primarily for head and bear trimming, meaning it is not recommended for full body grooming. The Color Pro is corded, and for the price we expected to at least have on the go mobility.

Silver Bullet Speed Electric Trimmer – $139.99 at Amazon.com.au

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is star_en_Artboard-1_3-4_long-2-1024x108.png

The Silver Bullet speed is a basic cordless trimmer with a unique copper colored body accent and charging base. Unfortunately the product offers limited accessories, a relatively small and short lived battery, and a questionable finish that may not pass the test of time. Combined with the relatively high price, and we recommend passing until a better version with more competitive stats is released.
