You would think that a brand as large as Coca-Cola or Dr. Pepper wouldn’t need to worry about social engagement. After all, the audience is already attentive to new products and even as times change, the core audience remains. Still, several soft drink companies have taken it upon themselves to establish an online presence in the world of social media, and continue to participate in the world of social engagement. Here’s a look at some of the best and most entertaining social media tactics we found.
Dr. Pepper is giving fans the opportunity to join the official Dr. Pepper site simply by using their Facebook or Twitter login information. Playing off of its ‘Always One of a Kind’ tagline and commercial, the site is also inviting fans to submit what it is that makes them one of a kind. After submitting, the user’s picture and statement are added to the collage on the site’s landing page. After that, fans can even purchase their statement on a t-shirt, complete with the Dr. Pepper logo.
Coca-Cola has an impressive online presence. Not online are there sites devoted entirely to a specific variety (like Diet Coke or Coke Zero), they also have an active Twitter and Facebook presence. To offer a bit of variety to their tweets, they also created a Twitter account for the deceased inventor of Coca-Cola, Dr. Pemberton. Not only can fans and followers tweet at their favorite fizzy founder, they can also send e-cards and Coke coupons via Facebook to their friends.
They also recently started posting URL riddles that lead fans and followers to a variety of fun, interactive sites (our personal favorite is fallingdominoes.com).
Sun Drop has received a lot of attention thanks to their goofy dance-based commercials. As part of their social engagment strategy, they’re asking fans to submit their own videos, illustrating how they ‘drop it.’ They then feature the videos on their site for other fans to see.
